Big Data Developer

We are looking for a Python/Spark/Cassandra developer to join our Ottawa team developing an analytics platform geared towards predicting stability & performing recommendations of Cisco products.  The primary role is developing algorithms & predictions to improve the product quality before it is shipped. You will work with diverse data sources (and significant volume), mining/analyzing the information, coming up with the next generation analytics platform.


  • Develop and enhance prediction models for Product software bugs
  • Work with large & disparate data sets to analyze source code & come up with inferences, interface with various workflow tools
  • Develop new tools and methods to predict the overall quality of software releases
  • Automate unit, functional and system testing
  • Support our user community by responding reactively to problems
  • Design and implement solutions to proactively monitor our tools, to avoid creating reactive support
  • Follow very strong, high quality internal Software Development practices
  • Work within an Agile (scrum) team environment


  • Solid understanding of Computer Science/Engineering fundamentals
  • Excellent knowledge of programming languages – particularly Python and Java, SQL/CQL, REST API’s, JSON
  • Experience with any JavaScript chart API’s (like D3, HighCharts, Google Charts etc.)
  • Knowledge of PyUnit, JavaScript, Shell, etc. are assets
  • Familiarity with Apache Spark, Solr
  • Creative problem solving skills and excellent troubleshooting/debugging skills
  • Hands-on experience in using source control and bug tracking systems: GIT, Gerrit, SVN, Perforce, ClearCase, Jira, BugZilla, etc.
  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work towards long-term goals
  • Ability to collaborate and work closely with teammates, but also self-sufficient and can work independently
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • 2+ years’ Experience developing software in a large (200+ person) organization
    • May consider a strong Masters new grad; or Bachelors new grad with some work experience
